tips & tricks
processing
- Moisten bricks before laying (not in the case of clinkers).
- Carefully align stones after placing, do not place too many courses at once, as this impedes alignment.
- A suitable mortar is a tile adhesive (grey) or "Moltofill external" (white).
- Moisten the masonry with a damp cloth before setting the mortar, clean with a grinding cleaner when dry.
Abrading individual bricks with steel wool creates beautiful shade effects in the masonry. - Foundations made of ceramic material would be ideal; when using other materials, it is important to attain an elastic connection with the masonry in order to avoid crack formation.
- It is quite possible to divide stones with a hammer and chisel. A suitable base is a piece of leather on a metal plate. (Protective goggles !)
- Clay is a natural product; possible deviations in dimension and colour are least within one furnace batch, so it is advisable to cover the requirements of one structure with one order.
Manufacture of miniature pallets
- Manufacture scaled down, nonreturnable pallet according to the original dimensions L = 98cm, W = 75cm and H = 12cm depending on scale.
- Prepare brick courses with the stretcher side ( = long side) lying on the work surface.
» 276 bricks in 4 courses at 3 x 13 bricks and 3 courses at 4 x 10 bricks « - Brush pallet with wood glue and stick headfirst to the prepared brick course. Stick down each further course correspondingly.
- Wrap a strip of domestic clingfilm (film width a little greater than pallet height) round the pallet about 3 times under tension.
- Print or copy and stick the logo on to the clingfilm in an appropriate size.
